  Objectives

The Knowledge Discovery and Bioinformatics (KDBIO) group of INESC-ID develops its activities in the areas of knowledge discovery, computational biology and bioinformatics. The objective is to integrate competences from researchers in diverse fields, including computer science, biology, statistics and control to address the challenges in computational biology and bioinformatics.

Our research is centered in the areas of:

  • Algorithms and complexity
  • Machine learning and data mining
  • Databases and information systems
  • with applications in:

  • DNA sequence analysis
  • Motif discovery in DNA sequences
  • Sequence alignment and assembly
  • Gene expression analysis
  • Gene regulatory networks
  • Metabolic networks modeling
  • Systems biology
  • Information systems for computational biology
  • Haplotype inference
  •
