Interactive Tablets for Collaborative Scenarios Related to 3D Medical Image Exploration

This project proposes a new framework that combines tablets with tabletops to allow collaborative visualization and exploration of 3D medical images. In this project, tablets gain special notoriety as they will be used as haptic multipurpose input devices allied with a sketch based interface. Tablets will yield a favorable environment for a more natural interaction with 3D medical images, allowing content to be clipped anatomical parameters measured, organs to be segmented, and transfer functions designed through a sketch based interface. On the other hand, tabletops will serve to display multiple views of the content, although navigational interaction will be available for collaborative tasks. Interested users, namely, radiologist, surgeons, medical students and even patients, will be around the tabletop carrying tablets and interacting with the content. Ultimately, we aim to augment or even replace desktop systems that are currently used in healthcare.
