Abstract:

Applications have become interwoven with our everyday lives, we now more than ever feel the need to be able access them anywhere we are. In order to allow users to have such a behaviour mobility must be supported. This article analyses two possible levels at which mobility can be supported. We first explain the reasons which lead to the need for mobility at each of these levels and follow with an analysis of several of the mobility architectures available, both at the network and the application layer. A qualitative comparison is then made of the solutions and conclusions are drawn regarding the situations in which they should be used.
