Abstract:

Given a distributed system configuration – processes, communications channels and related properties -, a conventional dependable distributed system is, by definition, adaptive regarding a number of component failures that may occur. However, when the system configuration may change over time, the dependability mechanisms may have to adapt to new configurations with possibly degraded (or upgraded) dependability levels. Further complications may arise when, besides the system configuration, application requirements may change at run-time. In such a dynamic environment, distributed systems are required to be adaptive at run-time concerning both application requirements and system configurations. In this talk it will be briefly presented the approaches which are being investigated in LaSiD (Distributed Systems Laboratory) at UFBA to design and implement such systems, both in the system model and architectural level.
