Information and Decision Support Systems

Mission

The IDSS (Information and Decision Support Systems Lab) is coordinated as a single research group, with nearly 25 senior and associate researchers, about the same number of junior researchers (PhD students), and a dymanic team of MSc students and visiting scholars.

# Iniatives in the unit span:

- Research and development projects

- Innovation and cooperation activities with governmental and industrial partners

- Supervision of students in advanced research programmes

- Training and consulting services

- Knowledge transfer activities though creation of technology-based startups

# Startup companies launched by IDSS researchers include:

- HeartGenetics, Genetics and Biotechnology SA (products and services in computational biology and bioinformatics)

- Siquant Lda (products and services in model-driven engineering, content management systems, and geographic information systems)

Objectives

The Information and Decision Support Systems group implements the objectives of of the IDSS research line.

The IDSS Lab aims at designing novel processes, techniques and technology for the analysis, design, development, integration, deployment, and operation of complex information systems, and focus on the advancement and exploration of synergies in related topics within the domain of computer science and engineering, namely:

- Enterprise architectures;

- Business process modeling;

- Requirements engineering

- Model-driven engineering

- Big data analyses

- Information retrieval

- Data profiling and cleaning

- Information extraction

- Ontology/knowledge engineering

- Geographic information systems

- Algorithms and complexity

- Machine learning and data mining

Strategy

In 2015 the INESC-ID research groups (SI, DMIR and KDBIO) merged into a single coordination structure, the IDSS Lab (Information and Decision Support Systems Lab).

The IDSS is coordinated as a single research group, with nearly 25 senior and associate researchers, about the same number of junior researchers (PhD students), and a dymanic team of MSc students and visiting scholars.
