Sofia Romeiro, INESC-ID master’s student, was recently honoured with the “Huawei In-Tele Award” for her work on the “FloodKiller” system, co-supervised by Nuno Santos, INESC-ID researcher in distributed parallel and secure systems.

The system focuses on protecting digital infrastructures by mitigating cyberattacks through direct network intervention. It filters and validates connection attempts in real time, allowing only legitimate users to reach the server and blocking harmful traffic. Sofia was recognised as “Best Student” in the master’s programme in Telecommunications and Informatics at Técnico and presented the same topic at the N2Women workshop of SIGCOMM 2025, where it was distinguished as “Best Student Contribution”.

The “Huawei In-Tele Award” is part of the In-Tele Cooperation Protocol, a telecommunications initiative supported by Huawei Portugal, following an agreement signed with Técnico. It fosters the development of joint initiatives that strengthen advanced training and connection between academia and industry.
