Last week, INESC-ID helped host the ELLIS Doctoral Symposium 2026 (EDS2026), held at Instituto Superior Técnico under the theme Trustworthy AI. The four-day event (27–30 July) was organised by ELLIS Unit Lisbon — a partnership between Instituto Superior Técnico, INESC-ID, the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisboa) and Instituto de Telecomunicações — and brought together more than 100 PhD students, researchers and industry experts from across Europe to explore reliable, safe and adaptable Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems.

The Industry Fair on 29 July was a highlight of the programme, bringing together 18 companies and organisations working across AI research, robotics, entrepreneurship, health, finance and business applications. INESC-ID was present with a dedicated stand, hosted by PhD students Regina Duarte (Artificial Intelligence for People and Society) and Beatriz Vieira (Information Decision Support Systems), who introduced attendees to the institute’s research areas, ongoing projects and opportunities for collaboration. Over the course of the Fair, the stand drew interest from several PhD students asking about postdoctoral opportunities and collaborations in areas such as High Performance Computing.

Among the companies present were Sword Health, Neuralshift/Affine and Feedzai, offering multiple options for participants to discover job opportunities, connect with researchers and industry professionals, and learn more about the use of AI in a business context.

The symposium’s broader programme included talks, panels, poster sessions and networking moments. Among the invited speakers were two INESC-ID researchers: Ana Paiva, Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, who delivered a keynote talk, and Emanuel Gonçalves, who spoke as an Early Career Speaker, both contributing to the event’s scientific depth and international reach.
