Biography

Prof. Daniel Gonçalves is full professor at the Computer Science Department of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST/ULisbon), and an Integrated Researcher in the Graphics and Interaction reseach area of INESC-ID. His research focuses on Information Visualization, Gamification, Human-Computer Interaction, and Personal Information Management, resulting in over 200 peer-reviewed papers and the co-authorship of a Human-Computer Interaction textbook. 

He supervised 11 PhD and over 100 MSc students and played a lead role in several projects, including VisBig, on the real-time visualization of streaming big data and GameCourse on education gamification. He served as the Technical Program Chair of IFIP INTERACT 2011 and the ACM International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces in 2012, as well as Area Chair of GRAPP (since 2020). 

He is a senior member of the ACM and the Portuguese Computer Graphics Group (the national Eurographics chapter), where he served on the board of directors from 2014 to 2022. Since 2015, he has also been a member of the Editorial Board of the Universal Access to the Information Society journal.
