Pedro M. S. Carvalho received the Electrical and Computer Engineering degree, the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal, in 1992, 1994, and 1999, respectively. Since 1992, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at IST, University of Lisbon, where he is currently a Full Professor. He is also a senior researcher of the Sustainable Power Systems Group of INESC-ID, Lisbon, Portugal, where he is the strategic coordinator of the Energy Transition thematic line. He has also been a close collaborator of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA, where he is an Adjunct Professor since 2015.

Interests in power engineering sciences with particular focus on power systems planning, networks operation and control, smart grids and data analytics, as invaluable knowledge building-blocks for tackling modern power systems challenges, such as those deriving from Energy Transition.
