Algoritmos para Redução de Modelos e Simulação Eficiente de Redes Neuronais (NeuronReduce)

Type: National Project Project

Duration: from 2018 Oct 01 to 2022 Sep 30

Financed by: FCT

Prime Contractor: R - INESC-ID Lisboa (Other) - Lisboa, Portugal

Project Web Site: http://algos.inesc-id.pt/projectos/neuronreduce

The Neuron Reduce project is an effort to develop algorithms that will enable more efficient simulation of biological neural networks, allowing for the analysis of more complex systems and providing more insight into how the brain functions. The project aims to develop techniques for compressing models of neurons and neuronal networks in order to increase both capacity as well as efficiency of simulation, making it possible to simulate much larger networks of neurons than is possible today. The project relies on expertise on electrical simulation and model reduction, gathered over the course of the last decades, leading to the development of new algorithms and techniques that have met with considerable success in many fields, allowing for the generation of compact models for systems with millions of internal dynamics. Bringing this expertise into the field of neuroscience opens intriguing new possibilities for improvements in simulation of biologically-inspired neuronal networks.
