Imagiologia magnética de ultra-alta resolução para detecção imuno-histoquímica (MagScopy4IHC)

Type: National Project Project

Duration: from 2018 Mar 01 to 2022 Feb 28

Financed by: POR Lisboa (FEDER) e FCT

Prime Contractor: R - INESC MN (Other) - Lisbon, Portugal

Diagnosis of patients suffering from cancer and other diseases and their personalized treatment increasingly depends on the detection of biomarkers which can be measured accurately and reproducibly in medical centers with oncology services. To achieve this end, diagnostic technologies with high sensitivity and robust read-out devices that allow its placement out of great core facilities are required. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is widely used in the diagnosis of tumors [1], namelly in the hospital group from Santiago de Compostela (USC). Here we provide a new alternative to assess the antibody-antigen interaction for precise location of the signal in the specimen, based on robust IHC techniques but instead of color we use magnetic nanoparticles to generate the signal.Within MagScopy4IHC we have the ambition to take a step further in the existing know-how of the INESC-MN/INESC-ID/USC team for nanoparticle detection and develop an integrated device with high impact for pathologists. Advanced MR sensors will be designed and microfabricated for high sensitivity field detection (few nT/sqrt(Hz) while maintaining a small size (therefore spatial resolutions under 1 um).
