The goal of the Trustworthy Ad Hoc Teamwork project is to create an autonomous agent that can collaborate efficiently and robustly with previously unknown teammates. To do so, the group of researchers will create new artificial intelligence teamwork algorithms and explore the issue of trust in human-robot interactions, addressing a vital question: How can a robot learn to cooperate with unknown human teammates in complex domains, and at the same time foster the development of a trusting relationship, in which the robot has no pre-coordination protocol and has to learn to cooperate in real time?
