Synthesizing Network Accelerators using Programmable Switching Equipment (SyNAPSE)

Type: National Project Project

Duration: from 2020 Nov 01 to 2022 Apr 30

Financed by: FCT

Prime Contractor: R - INESC-ID Lisboa (Other) - Lisboa, Portugal

Project Web Site: https://pedrosa.2y.net/Projects/SyNAPSE

The SyNapse project aims to advance the state of the art in building programmable networks using synthesis. Towards this end we will build a prototype synthesis engine that takes as input a software network function implementation mapped onto a network and synthesis a new controller for the network along with any requisite switch programs that combined produce equivalent behavior. We will further build out the infrastructure needed to design, develop, and evaluate the prototype, while also laying the ground work for longer-term collaboration. In addition to building a prototype to illustrate the feasibility of network synthesis at a small scale and for limited set of applications, SyNAPSE will also help build human capital by training young researchers in these new techniques.
