The goal of this project is to implement a communication module for electrical substations. The communication module is based on an Ethernet link. To guarantee the safety and reliability of the system, Ethernet redundancy protocols are mandatory. The redundancy protocols to be implemented in the communication module are the PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) and the HSR (High-availability Seamless Redundancy), together with an Ethernet synchronization protocol PTP (Precision Time Protocol). The implementation targets Xilinx or Intel/Altera FPGAs.
