To mark the beginning of the academic year, the Departamento de Engenharia Informática (DEI) of Instituto Superior Técnico hosted a welcome session for the incoming students of the bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering (LEIC) and the master’s degree in the same field (MEIC). As one of Técnico’s research units, INESC-ID joined these sessions to introduce the institute to the newcomers, engaging early with potential members of its research community. The events took place at Campus Alameda on September 2 and continued the following day at Campus Oeiras, marking the first contact many of these students will have with the research environment.

The presentations included academic groups and two Técnico research unites; ITI-Larsys, represented by President Nuno Nunes and INESC-ID, represented by Rodrigo Abril de Abreu, Head of the Communications and Outreach Office. INESC-ID’s presentation offered an overview of the institute and its main scientific areas. Three impactful projects were also highlighted, including AMALIA, CARMA and MALDIBANK, offering students concrete examples of the research available and of the work they may one day contribute to as they advance in their studies. Ana Teresa Freitas, President of DEI and an INESC-ID researcher, opened the programme with an encouraging address to the students as they embark on their academic journey. The sessions were hosted by António Leitão and Carlos Martinho, INESC-ID researchers and coordinators of LEIC-A and LEIC-T respectively and  Pedro Monteiro, INESC-ID researcher and coordinator of MEIC.
