ELLIS Doctoral Symposium 2026: Trustworthy AI

The ELLIS Doctoral Symposium 2026 will take place from July 27–30 at Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon, under the theme Trustworthy AI. The event is organised by ELLIS Unit Lisbon, which includes Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), INESC-ID, the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisboa), and Instituto de Telecomunicações.

The symposium brings together PhD students, researchers, and experts from across Europe to explore the latest advancements in artificial intelligence, particularly in creating future AI systems that are reliable, safe, and adaptable. Through a series of talks, panels, poster sessions, and networking opportunities, EDS 2026 will promote collaboration and innovation in the field of AI, helping to shape the next generation of AI researchers. Ana Paiva, INESC-ID researcher and Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, is among the confirmed keynote speakers.

Registration

EDS is open to all ELLIS PhDs and postdocs, as well as PhD students of ELLIS Fellows, Scholars, and Members who are not part of the ELLIS PhD program. Students who are not from the ELLIS network may only apply during the second round, pending space availability. The first registration round deadline is 26 April 2026. Capacity is limited to 200 participants;

Mobility Funding

Each participant is eligible to apply for a mobility grant to cover travel and accommodation costs related to attending the event in Lisbon. More details on mobility funding here.
