Seminar @ INESC-ID by Sylvain Kubler: “Toward Trustworthy AI in Smart Manufacturing – From Data Augmentation to Explainable Chatbots”

Abstract: Applying AI in manufacturing remains challenging due to the complex, dynamic, and heterogeneous nature of industrial data, often affected by sensor noise, multimodal signals, and data scarcity. Beyond performance, companies increasingly demand trustworthy AI solutions that ensure robustness, transparency, and meaningful human oversight.

In this seminar, Dr. Sylvain Kubler and Pierre Glandon will present recent research initiatives conducted in collaboration with industrial partners. The talk will cover advances in data augmentation techniques for generating high-quality synthetic time-series data to address imbalance and scarcity in production and maintenance contexts, as well as novel relation triplet extraction (RTE) methods designed to enhance Graph RAG–based LLM pipelines. These developments aim to improve explainability and reliability when dealing with domain-specific, error-prone, and jargon-heavy manufacturing text data.
