During the INESC Brussels HUB Winter Meeting 2026, held on 28–29 January at the University of Coimbra, the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the INESC Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to reinforce cooperation between the two organisations.

Signed by JRC Director-General Bernard Magenhann and representatives of the five INESC institutes — Inês Lynce (President, INESC-ID), João Claro (President and CEO, INESC TEC), Nelson Escravana (Executive Administrator, INESC INOV), Paulo Freitas (President, INESC MN), and Carlos Henggeler Antunes (President, INESC Coimbra) — the MoU opens new collaboration opportunities in science-for-policy strategies, foresight, innovation, startups, research and technological infrastructures, all key areas that support Europe’s strategic autonomy, industrial competitiveness, and sustainability.

The agreement was signed during the INESC Brussels HUB Winter Meeting 2026, a strategic gathering organised by the INESC Brussels HUB and the INESC institutes to position the INESC ecosystem for the next EU Framework Programme (FP10) and the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF).
