EV4EU project at the final event of the Portuguese demonstrator
Around 47% of new vehicles acquired in the Azores last year are electric, with an estimated 6000 electric vehicles (EVs) already used across the archipelago. With these promising numbers, the INESC-ID led EV4EU project (“Electric Vehicles Management for carbon neutrality in Europe”), held the final event of the Portuguese demonstrator at the Laboratório Regional de Engenharia Civil (LREC) in São Miguel. Under the theme “EV4EU: From V2X Innovation to Implementation in Europe’s Energy System”, it was an opportunity to present results and discuss the future of electric mobility and integration of EVs in energy systems with key experts.
The programme included sector representatives, technical presentations, a roundtable and closing remarks by Joana Rita, Director at the Regional Directorate for Energy (DREn). As key speaker, Hugo Morais, researcher in Sustainable Power Systems and coordinator of the EV4EU project at INESC-ID, emphasised the fast-growing technical evolution of EVs, the importance of making electric mobility accessible, and the central role of the electric grid in sustainable transport. INESC-ID researcher Cindy P. Guzman conducted a live demo of the software solutions and user interface developed by INESC-ID for smart charging and more accurate data collection.
The next milestone for the project will be its final event at the Transport Research Arena (TRA 2026) Conference in Budapest, Hungary, on 19 May, which will bring together experts and key stakeholders to highlight the project’s main achievements.
The event was featured in several media outlets, including RTP Azores, Correio dos Açores and Notícias ao Minuto.
