“What truly matters is people being able to choose without being influenced by unfounded notions”. This was the statement made by Inês Lynce at the beginning of the latest episode of Monóculo, regarding the gender bias in certain fields of technology and engineering.

The INESC-ID researcher in automated reasoning and software reliability, and President of the Board of Directors, joined Paula Cordeiro in the TSF – Rádio Notícias podcast for a conversation focused on technology and various topics related to it, from education and artificial intelligence (AI) to her own experience as a woman in the field of information technology.

The researcher reflected on the growing presence of women and girls in engineering, recognising the efforts being made but also highlighting that there’s still a long way to go. She commented on how university student selection is carried out, highlighting that, although important, grades alone don’t define the potential of a student. Regarding AI, Inês Lynce believes that, as a society, there are still many choices to be made, but emphasises that critical thinking and originality are crucial for using this tool effectively.
