In the Media: Inês Lynce introduces the SAIL Project, and its role in connecting research and industry, in ECO podcast
“There are many PhD graduates, and what could truly make a difference is their integration into industry.” In the seventh episode of ECO’s “Podcast.IA”, Inês Lynce, President of the Board of Director’s and researcher at INESC-ID, shared her perspective on the current landscape of job opportunities in academia for PhD graduates and how the recent SAIL project could positively impact this scenario.
The researcher introduces SAIL, the Sustainable Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, a capacity-building project that recently secured €27.2 million in Horizon Europe funding. It aims to establish a dedicated centre for sustainable AI, strengthening Europe’s position as a global leader in responsible, human-centric AI development. Beyond this milestone, SAIL has a clear mission: to enhance the ability to develop and retain national talent in the AI field. With a rising number of PhD graduates and limited academic capacity, the project intends to create relevant pathways by reinforcing advanced training and deepening collaboration between research with industry, providing conditions for industries to acquire new talents.
